Cell Phone Forensics
Almost 75% of the world population has a cell phone today! It is estimated that by 2020 that number will increase to 90% of the world. It is the most used device not only for communication but data transfer, Internet access and many other applications. Cell phones can be simple, just dial a number or more complicated than many laptop computers, with numerous applications and features. The field of cellphone forensics is mired in miss-information and erroneous information. For example many individuals advertise that they can locate a cell phone anywhere on earth, etc. There are severe limitations to the ability of non-governmental agencies to obtain such information and in many countries and their political subdivisions it is illegal for individuals outside of law enforcement to possess such data.
Our ethical and professional cannons do not allow us to engage in the “pinging” or illegal locating of phones and other radio devices for private purposes. We have conducted such investigations for governmental units with appropriate court approval in support of investigations. In many cases our clients ask why are cellphone forensics so expensive? Our response, is that cell phones that contain many applications require complex forensic techniques and multiple software products to accurately extract their content in a sound and repeatable forensic technique. Such practices require much more hands on work and are substantially slower than those used for computer hard disks.
We have dedicated systems to the forensic examination of cell phones and tablet systems and continue to invest in the latest technology in this growing area of our field of practice.
